Here you will find the answers to some of your questions. As always, if you do not find your answer here, please call us to discuss your needs.

Q. I breed dogs. The registry for my breed will not accept digital hip and elbow images on a CD. My DVM have only digital images. They can only give me a CD with my dog’s X-RAY images. Can you take these digital images and make hard copy film from them?
A. In most cases yes, if your DVM’s CD is in Dicom format, we can take the images and make hard copy film. However, some digital radiology equipment makes images in a proprietary format that does not allow us access. Ask your DVM if his/her equipment outputs Dicom.

Q. What is Dicom? How is it used in my films?
A. Dicom is an acronym for Digital Imaging Communication in Medicine. It is the standard in the Radiology community to allow different types of medical radiology equipment to “talk” to each other.  When we digitize your film, the information is stored in the Dicom language and therefore can be accessed by programs written to read Dicom.

Q. What happens if I send my CD to you and it is not in Dicom format? Will I be charged for you to look at it?
A. No, if your CD’s images are in a format that will not let us access them there is no charge. We will return it to you via the same shipper that you used to send it to us.

Q. Is there any way for me to see if my CD is in Dicom format?
A. You can insert your CD in the in the tray and allow it to spin up.  Once it has, go to My Computer on your desktop or press the Start Button in the bottom left corner and find it there. Right click the icon for your CD drive and click on properties. The resulting screen should show you what files are on the CD. If you see a file called DCM.DIR then your images are in Dicom format.

Q. My DVM has gone to digital equipment. I am told that the only images he/she can give me are JPEG’s can you convert these images to x-ray film?
A. We can convert Jpeg images on CD to x-ray film. This film can then be sent to the registry for certification. Keep in mind that with CD’s, some x-ray equipment outputs images in a proprietary format that will not allow us access to produce x-ray copies. In these cases, you can ask your vet to give you your images in Dicom or Jpeg. We can produce x-ray film copies from either format.

Q. My vet has given me a CD with both Dicom and Jpeg images on it. Which will give me the highest quality images?
A. Dicom will produce the highest quality images. However the Jpeg images can also be converted to Dicom. Depending on the resolution your Jpeg images are saved in, there should be minimal loss when converted to Dicom.

 Q. Your web site indicates that you will archive my film for no charge. How is this done? What if I do not want my film archived?
A. Xrayexpress offers free archiving of your images as a service to our clients. This allows you to have additional films or CDs duplicated at a later time without the need for the original X-RAY FILM or CD to be sent to us. As we scan your original order, the images are indexed and stored in digital Dicom format. We simply pull your images from our archive and reprint the film or burn another CD. This saves you money and time. Our archive servers are not accessible from the outside and cannot be hacked into from the Internet, your stored images are safe and protected. If you do not want your images archived, we will respect your wishes and delete them after your order is completed.

Q. After my x-ray copies are created can they be sent directly to my breed registry?
A. Yes, if you wish us to send your film directly to the registry we will do that for you. You will need to supply us with the address and a contact person at your registry. Additional shipping and handling fees will apply. Please call us to discuss you needs prior to sending your CD/Film to us.

Q. How long will it take for me to receive my x-ray film back?
A. Our usual turnaround for x-ray orders is 48 hours from the time we receive your CD/Film. Rush orders are accepted with same day service for an additional $25.00 dollars. Delivery times will be dependant on the way you choose to have the film sent back to you. Example: FedEx overnight etc.

Q. I have seen x-rays of many types of animals. Can x-rays of any animal be copied?
A. Yes, x-ray film/CD’s of any animal can be copied and digitized. Keep in mind that with CD’s, some x-ray equipment outputs images in a proprietary format that will not allow us access to produce x-ray copies. In these cases, you can ask your vet to give you your images in Dicom or Jpeg. We can produce x-ray copies from either format. Xrayexpress.net understands that all animals are subject to injury and therefore need x-rays at some point in their lives.
